Your data, plainly.

Sprucie is a proof of concept operated by BuiltByDad, LLC (“we”), which is responsible for the personal data described here. We collect only what we need to style you, and we don't sell personal data. This page explains what we collect and why.

No account needed, until you want one

When you open the stylist we set a cookie that keeps an anonymous session in your browser. It isn't tied to your name or email unless you choose to give us one. Starting a session or signing in includes an automated check that you're a person, not a bot.

If you create an account or sign in, we store your email address and email you a one-time code. Everything you made anonymously on that browser (events, looks, saved looks, previews) moves to your account, so you can open it on any device. Signing out ends the session on that browser; your account and what's in it stay.

Waitlist and invites. While we open up in waves, joining puts your email on our waitlist and we email you when you're in. If you use an invite code we record which code, and who invited you, so they can earn their invite reward. If you invite a friend by email, we store their address, send them one invitation that names you, and use it only to let them in.

What we store

  • Your event: the occasion, date, place, dress code, budget, role and any notes you type. For a job interview, the kind of workplace (and anything you type in the place field, such as a company name). For a trip, the destination, dates, the activities you list, how many looks you want and your luggage.
  • Your swipes: which products you liked or passed on, and the style preferences we learn from them.
  • Your fit answers: height, weight and optional age, plus any optional measurements, sizes you wear in brands you know, and fit preferences and dealbreakers. From these we estimate measurements for sizing. This is sensitive information. We use it only to size clothes and never to label your body.
  • Your stylist conversation and the looks it produced, including any looks you save.
  • Clicks on buy links, so we can confirm commissions and learn which looks people buy.
  • Basic usage analytics such as which pages you visit, where you came from (for example an ad or a search), which steps you finish and which buy links you follow. It's tied to a random id kept in your browser's storage (not a cookie), and to your session or account once you start styling. In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland nothing is stored in your browser for analytics: visits are counted with a short-lived hash that is never linked to your session or account. We don't record your screen or what you type.
  • Security information: a pseudonymized form of your IP address and your rough location (country and city) with each event you create and each buy link you click, used only to prevent fraud and abuse.
  • Your event credits: credits added (free events, invite rewards, purchases) and used.
  • Purchases and Sprucie+: what you bought, the amount, date and any refund; if you subscribe, your subscription's status, billing period and how much of the month's allowance you've used. We never see or store your card details.
  • Your age confirmation: we record that you confirmed you're 18 or older, and when.

We don't keep your photos. Sizing never uses a photo. The mic is off, so no audio is recorded.

Teens

Sprucie is for adults. An adult shopping for a teen (13–17) may give us the teen's age, height, sizes and fit preferences. We use them only to size clothes, and we never sell them. Teen styling has no photo previews. To delete a teen's details, email privacy@sprucie.app and we'll remove them.

“See the full look” previews

You can ask for an AI-generated picture of a look, either on an invented model or, if you're a member, on you. Teen looks are only shown on invented models. To show a look on you, you choose a full-length photo of yourself; it's sent once, with the look's product images, to an AI image provider that makes the preview. If you add the photo on the fit step, it stays in your browser until you ask to see a look on you. It isn't used for sizing.

  • Safety checks. Your photo and every generated picture are checked for explicit content; the check doesn't store them or use them for training. We keep only the result, for up to 12 months, never the photo.
  • Your photo is not stored. We use it only to make that preview, then discard it. We keep a one-way fingerprint of it (not the photo) so asking for the same preview again reuses the one already made.
  • Generated previews are private to you, kept in private storage and shown only to you.
  • We keep previews for up to 30 days, then delete them. You can delete all of yours at any time with “Delete my try-on images” in the preview window.
  • Previews are approximate: colors, fit and details can differ from the real pieces.

Shared look links

  • A member can share a look by link. “Share” makes a page with the pieces in the look (with live prices), your first name if you type one, and either your full-look preview or, without one, the main piece's product photo. Anyone with the link can see it, signed in or not, until it ends or you stop sharing: a link with a preview ends when the preview's 30 days end, a link without one 30 days after you share it. Your sizes, body details and the stylist's notes are never on the page. A preview on your own photo is only shared after you confirm it.
  • You can stop sharing at any time on the page or in your account, and “Delete my try-on images” stops every link that shows a preview. Apps that show link previews (messages, chat apps) may keep their own copy of the picture, which we can't reach.
  • Comments: a comment and the first name typed with it are visible to anyone with the link until the link ends; the person who shared the look can delete it. Comments are deleted with the link. We never show a commenter's email or account. Shared pages aren't indexed by search engines.

Payments

Credit packs and the Sprucie+ subscription are sold by BuiltByDad, LLC, and Stripe processes the payments. Stripe collects the details it needs to take a payment (such as your card, billing country and email) under its own privacy policy; we never see or store your full card number. Stripe tells us when a payment or subscription succeeds, renews, is refunded or ends, so we can keep your credits and Sprucie+ up to date. “Manage billing” opens Stripe's portal with your invoices and payment method.

Emails we send

  • Sign-in codes, and waitlist and invite emails, when you ask for them.
  • Once your events belong to an account, a short check-in email two days after an event (did it fit, did you keep it). Every one has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops them for good.
  • A receipt, sent by Stripe on our behalf, when you buy credits and for each Sprucie+ payment.
  • If you share a look or comment on one, at most one email a day about new comments and replies. Every one has an unsubscribe link.
  • If you have Sprucie+, a yearly reminder a week before each anniversary of your subscription, as the law requires for automatic renewals.

Who processes it

Service providers handle data for us, only to provide Sprucie and only what each task needs:

  • Hosting, database and storage providers.
  • Security and bot-protection providers, to check that a session or sign-in comes from a person.
  • Our payment processor, Stripe, under its own privacy policy (see Payments above).
  • An email delivery provider, only if you give us an address.
  • Our product analytics provider, PostHog, which receives the usage analytics described above and stores them in the United States.
  • AI providers that write your looks and stylist replies, sort your requests and feedback, read replies aloud when you ask, and make “See the full look” previews (your photo only if you add one).
  • Search, weather and product catalog providers. The weather lookup gets your event's place and dates; whatever you type in the place field is sent, so for an interview that may be a company name. Catalog providers get search terms, never your personal details.

A current list of our service providers is available on request: privacy@sprucie.app.

Retailers

When you click through to buy, you are on the retailer's site and their privacy policy applies. See our affiliate disclosure.

Keeping and deleting data

We keep preview data for up to 12 months, then delete it. Generated “See the full look” images are kept for up to 30 days, and you can delete them yourself at any time. You can ask us to delete everything linked to your session or account at any time. We keep purchase and refund records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after an account is deleted. Clearing your browser cookies ends the anonymous session, but it doesn't delete stored data by itself, so write to us if you want it removed.
